Philemon 1:6 "I pray that you my be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ." Pray for one another today, that each of us may be active in sharing our faith. Pray that each of us would look for opportunities to share with others the hope that we have through Jesus Christ.

Titus 3:1-2 "Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men." We live in a hostile political environment where slander, name calling and character assassination are everyday events. Paul warns us that we as Christian's cannot act that way. We can adamantly disagree with someone's political views, and we can state the reasons for our disagreement, but we are not free to slander those we oppose. We are not free to call them names and demean their character. God wants everyone to be saved. We should not slander and demean those that he came to save.

Titus 2:11-12 "For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say 'No' to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age." The bible is very clear that we are to turn away (repent) from ungodliness and worldly passions. Sound doctrine teaches us that we must die to our flesh and the world because they desire what is contrary to God. We are called to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives so that we may be pleasing to God and to be a witness of his transforming work and power in our lives.

Titus 1:16 "They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good." Actions speak louder than words. If you are born again and the all-powerful, all-knowing creator of the heavens and the earth comes and lives in you, it will change your behavior. Your change in your actions will speak for you.

2 Timothy 4:3 "For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear." We live in a time when packing people in the pews is more important than speaking the truth. It's easier to fill the pews with a positive, self-seeking message because thats what people want to hear. If you don't hear sermons preached at your church that deal with turning from sin and dying to self you are having your ears tickled and you are not hearing sound doctrine.

2 Timothy 3:12 "In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted," We must never see persecution as a lack of God's involvement in our lives. In fact, it is because of his involvement that persecution comes.

2 Timothy 2:22 "Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart." These are the three important action verbs in this verse and an example of what they mean. 1. Flee: as if you were in a burning house. 2. Pursue: as if you were in a desert searching for water. 3. Call: as if your life depended on it (which it does) When we apply these examples to this verse we see the absolute necessity of putting aside evil, pursuing God, and calling on Him.

You are invited to join us tomorrow evening for our quarterly Family Fun Night. We will have dinner, prayer and a special demonstration on the Armor of God. Dinner starts at 5:30 and the cooks are preparing Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, BBQ Beans, and Chips, there will be homemade icecream and desserts as well.

2 Timothy 1:8-9 "So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy life - NOT BECAUSE OF ANYTHING WE HAVE DONE, but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time." God saves us through his grace given to us in Christ Jesus. NOT BECAUSE OF ANYTHING WE HAVE DONE, but simply because he loves us. For that reason there can be no boasting as if we somehow have obtained our own salvation. We did not seek God, he sought us. We have merely responded to the message of the gospel, the good news that Jesus died for our sin and was resurrected for our life.

1 Timothy 5:8 "If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." The family is designed by God to be the most important place for us to understand how to love and live. Godly men are to be at the center of the family providing this foundation of love and life, which also includes their provision and protection. Even unbelieving men who have no thought's of God can be good fathers who provide for the needs of their families. If a "believing" man abandons his family, he has denied his most basic responsibility, something even unbelieving men do not do. He has turned his back on God and those he is to love the most. He is worse than an unbeliever.

1 Timothy 4:12 "Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." Spiritual maturity isn't measured by how much we know, it is measured by how well we live. Paul's admonishment to Timothy is a reminder that character is just as important as the content of our message.

1 Timothy 3:2-3 "Now the overseer must be above reproach, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money." Notice that the qualifications of church leadership deals with character, not a persons gifts or abilities. God distributes gifts and abilities as HE wills, WE are responsible for developing character. Are you choosing leaders for your church. Look first and foremost for men who have strived to develop their character.

1 Timothy 2:1-2 "I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." Paul's admonition to pray for those in leadership is a stark reminder that all authority is put in place by God. In the book of Romans Paul said, "The authorities that exist have been established by God." When we publicly disparage and malign those in leadership, we are actually speaking against those God has placed in authority. We have every right to disagree with them and speak against their policies, but we are not given license to demean them as people. God's solution for us, in dealing with those leaders who are immoral or evil, is to pray for them. 1 Timothy 2:4 says, "God wants all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of truth." Let us not speak evil of those God is willing to save! Let us pray for them.

1 Timothy 1:15-16 "Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners - of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life." Paul was by his own admission a blasphemous and violent man, and a persecutor of the church. He believed that God saved a sinner like him to prove that Christ Jesus came to save all sinners, no matter the wickedness of their sin. Their is no one beyond the reach of his love. There is no one beyond the cleansing of his blood. There is no one beyond the gift of his grace. All, everyone, anyone, who would believe on him will receive eternal life!

2 Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were among you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat." The church is to be God's hand to provide for those in need, but Paul knows that there are those who will take advantage of a good thing. The church is supposed to take care of those who CANNOT work and provide for themselves, not those who WILL NOT work and provide for themselves. If someone can work, and they are unwilling to work, the church is no longer obligated to help them.

2 Thessalonians 2:15 "So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter." Jesus said that those who hear his words and puts them into practice is like a man who builds his house upon a rock. That is our firm foundation. We stand firm when we put God's word into practice, when we hold to the teachings passed on to us.

2 Thessalonians 1:8 "He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus" God's eternal punishment isn't a very popular topic in today's society, even in the church. Yet, the Bible is very clear that God will send his wrath upon those who refuse to receive the salvation that is offered through Jesus Christ. Popular or not, hell is a reality that must be taught. We aren't mean if we tell a child not to touch a hot stove, so why would we be mean if we tell someone of an eternal fire. Certainly the attitude in which we say it is important. So say it in love as a warning, not with an attitude of judgement, but by all means say it.

1 Thessalonians 5:14 "And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone." The verse reminds me of the simple things that we are to do as believers. We don't have to search for some national ministry or city wide impact as individuals. Just help the neighbor next door, the discouraged co-worker, or the widow down the street. We may need to lovingly warn someone who a busybody or disruptive if we know them well, but for the most part, just do unto others as you would have them do unto you. As I said, it's the simple things we do that make great personnel impact. Don't despise small things.
